Chat with AOL contacts from Gmail
This is another milestone from the gmail stable. And this time they have come with something extraordinary and most sought after feature i.e the ability to connect with friends in other network. So Gmail has stepped towards it and now offers the ability to chat with your AOL contacts from right within your gmail window. The feature addition does not stop here, you now have the ability to colorize the label you put for individual mail. (For me it is the most important addition Gmail has featured).
This new feature enable you to chat with your AOL contacts from gmail window, when you sign in to your AOL account. Once you sign in the AOL contcats will be populated in gmail and they are searchable from Gmail like the normal Gmail contacts.
This is what Google says about this feature:
Note that an AIM account is required to use this feature. AIM in Gmail is not a Google Talk and AIM federation; it’s the ability to sign in to your AIM messaging account from Gmail. Gmail uses Open AIM to provide this feature.
With the introduction of colored label, Google has surely added some color to the usual boring interface. When you log-in to yiur Gmail account you will see all your available labels just below the contcats list on the left side. Just mouse over any labels and it will show a downfacing green arrow. Click on that green arrow and you will see available colors to colorize the specific label. The colors can be changed any time. If a perticular post has more than one labels then you will see colors for both labels. You can either change the color of the font for the label name or the background color depending upon how you like.
These new features are available in the latest version of Gmail i.e Gmail V2. And this new version is now accessible to everyone accessing Gmail in Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox, but not in Internet Explorer 6. So if you are not using Firefox,

Exactly that is what I am hoping for. And I am sure Google will definitely fulfill it.

Nicely done on google’s part. If MSN had done this years ago they could have eliminated AIM from the market completely by now …

Wow, hadn’t noticed that. Great!
Is there something in the internet sector that Google won’t be a major player in, in a couple of years? =)

Google is really hitting the target this time. All they need now is to integrate yahoo and msn and we’ll have a sure shot winner! Love what they’re doing and hope to see much more from google in the future. Gmail is currently my fav!

although it is quite breakthrough for google, but I my self doubt could it be compete with major massager service like Yahoo Msg, which I used personally and never thinkin’ to change it, since I am satisfied with the service and features..

I have had no problems using this with IE7 and Firefox, but have experienced problems with Safari. Although this doesn;t present a problem for me, I do think it’s indicative that it’s not yet completely bug-free. I’m sure google will fix this soon though becasue it’s a very welcome add-on to an already great product.
